Exploring the Relationship Between Animals and Their Food Sources
At Newbury Studio, every collection begins with curiosity—and the Foraging Collection is no exception. Inspired by the everyday beauty of nature and the quiet rhythms of animal life, these prints explore one delightful theme: the connection between animals and the foods they forage.
This series brings together bold botanical shapes and playful animal silhouettes, all rooted in the world just outside our doors. Here’s a look behind the inspiration and meaning behind each pairing—and how this collection came to life.
🦌 Deer x Daylily
This pairing was where the whole idea began.
In my own backyard in New England, deer are frequent (and sometimes frustrating!) visitors. They love to nibble on daylilies and hostas, and I’ve often caught them mid-snack in the early mornings. There’s something both graceful and wild about watching them move through the garden—so it felt only right to start here.

🐇 Bunny x Carrot
This spring, our yard has been full of bunnies—charming, twitchy little creatures darting across the lawn. While carrots are the classic visual, I learned a fun fact while researching this piece:
Carrots are more like dessert for rabbits.
Their real meals are often made up of lettuce, grass, and leafy greens—but they’ll never turn down a sweet carrot treat after dinner!
This print adds a bit of charm and levity to the collection, perfect for nurseries or kitchen spaces. It also happens to be my daughter’s favorite.
🐻 Bear x Salmon
Though we don’t often see them, black bears do occasionally wander through our area. They’ve crossed our property before—usually quietly, usually at dusk—and they always leave a sense of awe behind.
Paired with salmon, a bear’s iconic wild meal, this print evokes strength, instinct, and the raw beauty of wilderness.

🦃 Turkey x Acorn
Another regular visitor to our New England yard: the wild turkey. More often, they’re seen pecking through the wild blackberries along the border of our property. But they’ll also forage for acorns, especially in the fall.
This pairing felt like the perfect nod to autumn abundance—a humble, earthy combination full of seasonal warmth.
🕊️ Crane x Cherry Blossom
This one’s a little different. While cranes don’t eat cherry blossoms, this print was a personal nod to my Japanese heritage, where the crane is a revered symbol of longevity and peace, and cherry blossoms represent the fleeting beauty of life.
The pairing isn’t biological—but it felt spiritually fitting. This piece rounds out the collection with grace and cultural depth.
🎨 Art That Tells a Story
Each Foraging Collection print combines modern composition with nature’s gentle humor—perfect for a gallery wall that sparks conversation, a nursery filled with curiosity, or a kitchen that celebrates simple abundance.
Whether rooted in fact (like the bear and salmon) or playfully symbolic (like the crane and cherry blossom), this collection celebrates how animals and food are intertwined in the world around us.
